Impulse purchases...good or bad??
7.27.2006
So I'm at the local WallyWorld this afternoon and I see this:

I realize the back copy is a bit small so let me quote the very first bit:

An immortal warrior, given the power to make right what once went wrong...in a time not his own.

Does anyone else hear those bells ringing?? Anyone? Anyone?? Bueller?

That's right, gentle readers! Whoever wrote the back copy must have been a fan of Quantum Leap. Now, I love me some Quantum Leap so I immediated recognized that bit from the prologue spoken over the opening credits of EVERY FREAKING EPISODE!!

"Theorizing that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and Vanished...He woke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home."

Good grief! I don't even know where to go with this...so I'll move on after I tell you that I picked it up and it's going to the top of the TBR (Lisa K will have to forgive me). I'm curious about this - especially since Ms. Mackenzie has two more connected books coming in October and December.

To complete my first thought - do your impulse book buys usually turn out well? Or do you mostly end up wishing with every fiber of your being that you had just said no?

Amazingly enough my impulse buys run about 80% to the good.

Mine too!

Oh yeah, is Laura the heroine of this book? LOL

I've been mostly lucky with my impulse buys, too, as a matter of fact...but oh the stories I've heard from friends! LOL

The heroine's name is Arabella, actually. :o) Might that be Laura's middle name??

I seem to always find the stinkers when I rashingly buy a book.

I think its my karma.

However, if I pour of reivew after review, I normally find one I enjoy.

That's too funny...I guess the copywriter for that book was paying an homage, in their less than graceful, indirect way...

hahaha.

You know, Sandie, I was hoping that there might be an acknowledgement or something (just in case the author wrote the back blurb) "Thanks to Scott Bakula for making time traveling and dressing in drag interesting"...but NO! Not on mention of anything remotely Quantum Leap-y. LOL Maybe at the end of the book.

:o)
