Dump the slump!
11.01.2006

Since we all seem to be slumping (although I'm thinking The Vampire Who Loved Me might snap mine), I thought it might be helpful if we take turns listing our three favorite authors - one historical, one contemporary and one of your choice. They don't have to be the best authors ever or the most popular or whatever...just the ones that you depend on to deliver the story you want and the ones you re-read when you can't find anything new you like. :o) Maybe this will provide some inspiration or at least some new possibilities to break the slumpage!!

So, me first - and since I can, I'm listing six. :-p

1. Historical: Lynn Kurland and Jo Beverley
2. Contemporary: Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Rachel Gibson
3. Other: Robin D. Owens and Sherrilyn Kenyon (if you don't include the B.A.D books)

Who's next, gentle readers??

Uh-oh.

Historical - Anne Stuart, Lisa Kleypas

Contemporary - Anne Stuart and I don't think I have any more go to authors in this.

Other - J.R. Ward and Kresley Cole.

I'm on a paranormal trip right now ;)

Ohhh, I like all of those people too! :o)

I haven't found No Rest for the Wicked yet, darn it all! Tomorrow I am headed for the mall!

Historical - Liz Carlyle and Lisa Kleypas

Contemporary - don't read a lot of contemporary but I will go with Julia London

Other - Paullina Simons...her The Bronze Horseman trilogy is exceptional.

I'm so with you on the reading slump. It's my latest blog topic. Here are my choices:

Historical: Lisa Kleypas

Contemporary: Erin McCarthy

Other: Shiloh Walker

Can't play along. I don't have authors per se, more like books. I haven't read any authors entire backlist regardless of the genre because I only read plots that interest me. :-)mx

Great idea C2!!

Historical:so many to chose from! LORETTA CHASE baby.

Contemporary: Jennifer Crusie

Other: Jacqueline Carey/Charlaine Harris

You guys are doing great!

Marg - don't you love Liz Carlyle? I almost listed her! :o)

Stacy - I haven't tried Erin McCarthy. I'll have to check her out.

Zeek - you know I'm there with you on Lora Leigh! ;-)

Mailyn - aren't you ever tempted to read someone's backlist based on a really good book??

Ames - love Loretta Chase (though I'm dubious about her return to Avon) and Jenny!

Sandie - maybe you'll think of some contemporary recs after a nap. :o)

Isn't it interesting how we all like a lot of the same people? Hmmm...maybe it's some weird cosmic blog magnetism.

Great idea! And I just picked up a Jo Beverly book--I've never read her before. :)

Let's see...

Historical--Loretta Chase or Georgette Heyer

Contemp--Jennifer Crusie

Other--Kelley Armstrong

But then my favorites change all the time. :)

Oh Jennie - you should definitely try Jo B! I suggest reading the Malloren series...My Lady Notorious is the first book (and one of my faves). :o)

At 3:42 PM, Blogger Kristie (J)

Wow - this is tough!

Historical: Lisa Kleypas, Pamela Clare

Contemporary: Linda Howard, Susan Anderson

Other: JD Robb, Susan Grant

This could change at any time though :)

At 9:48 PM, Blogger C2

Kristie - It is hard to pick, isn't it? :o) I haven't read Pamela Clare - I'll have to check her out. I used to read Susan Anderson...I wonder why I stopped? I'll look into that, too. LOL

At 9:47 AM, Blogger Jennie

Excellent--My Lady Notorious is the one I got. :)

Yay Jennie!! :-D It's one of my faves! And Rothgar?? Hot! His book is last.

Jo doesn't get as much buzz as she should, says me.

1. Historical: Julia Quinn, Lisa Kleypas, Suzanne Enoch, Eloisa James
2. Contemporary: Sandra Brown (pre-suspense), Linda Howard
3. Other: Sherrilyn Kenyon, Karen Marie Moning

At 11:49 PM, Blogger C2

Devonna - Don't you love Eloisa? I haven't mentioned yet how much I'm looking forward to Pleasure for Pleasure but I'll be blogging about it before December gets here! :-D

At 11:29 AM, Blogger Mailyn

Nah, I may be tempted to look but most of the time I don't find anything else by the author which interests me.

At 6:04 PM, Blogger C2

But...but...Mailyn! Don't most authors write similar things from book to book? *confuzzled eyebrow quirk* Maybe that's just the authors I read, though.

What about it, peeps??

At 1:13 PM, Blogger Mailyn

LMAO! I think not since most every time I find a book I love by an author I can't stand the rest of what I read from them. :-)
