...enough of this bookish-ness (not that books aren't important) and stuff about my boring life (except vacay is coming - WOO HOO!). Let's talk about something even more important:

the NEW TV SEASON!!!





Wow, summer TV is nothing but bad. Pleh. The only thing worth watching was So You Think You Can Dance, says me.



But those long sad days of bad reality shows and reruns are coming to an end, peeps. And I, for one, say YAY!!

Now let's talk about what I'm looking forward to ('cause, you know, it's all about me)...I can't wait for GLEE to come back full time! The sneek peek that aired after the American Idol was such fun! :-D If you have an iTunes account, you can download the GLEE cast's cover of Kanye West's Gold Digger for free right now. You know you want to. Also, this Friday, they are re-running the pilot and the cast will be tweeting along over on Twitter. I'll try to find a link about that later...I read it somewhere online yesterday. Fox is also re-running the Fringe finale this Thursday, supposedly, and the cast will be tweeting along during that, too. Follow @FringeOnFox to read along. However, my cable guide says some football preview is on this Thursday. Maybe that's just local? Yup, I checked...it's a local game. Ah well, I'll be on the road anyway.

What other new shows am I looking forward to, you ask? (I'm not linking everywhere because I'm lazy and the TV Guide pages have done part of it and Google is your friend) FlashForward looks very good, I think. Both because it sounds interesting and because Joseph Fiennes and John Cho are in it. Heh. Lovessss Joseph Fiennes! And John Cho is a cutie. And I'll be checking out Vampire Diaries, although my expectations are low. That's it for the new stuff I'll be setting the DVR for while I'm vacationing.

But what about returning faves, you might be wondering...well, So You Think You Can Dance is coming back for a Fall season, so YAY! And I'm looking forward to Dollhouse's return, as well as Castle (Nathan!!), Fringe, Grey's Anatomy, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and a few more shows.

Sorry, peeps! I've been visiting blogs and Twittering, though. So most of you know I'm around. :-D My mom's headed to my house for a visit, so I'll be missing again.



Let's see, what have I been reading? I am halfway through Blue Diabolo (courtesy of the fabulous Bree - half of Moira Rogers, for those who don't know...Donna is the other half and also fab) by the fabulous Ann Aguirre - very, very good. I had to put it aside temporarily because I got an advance copy of a most coveted book. Heh. Before that I tried to read Christine Feehan's most recent Drake Sisters book but I had to put it down - too dark for my mood. I might try it again later...and skim my way through the dark parts. Disappointed. I enjoyed Julia Quinn's newest - a fun, quick read. And I'm enjoying Alyssa Day's Atlantis series.

In other news, this is the first season I have watched So You Think You Can Dance and I am loving it! Why wasn't I watching before? Also, I can't wait for the Torchwood mini-series to start on BBC America. I loves me some Captain Jack! Design Star starts back up on HGTV tomorrow night and that should be fun. Otherwise, TV is pretty dead right now.

Let's see...oh, I know! For those of you still not on Twitter (*coughAMEScough*), let me tempt you with stories of Twitter contests and giveaways. In the last few months, I've snagged at least 3 or 4 books. And two were advance copies (very advance)! Plus we're fun! We're friendly! You'll see lots of familiar faces around. Don't you wanna come play, peeps? Of course you do! :-D

In other news, if you haven't heard Holly's news go here and read all about it. :o) RWA coverage abounds - you can read all about it at Kristie's blog, the Smart Bitches site, over at Katiebabs' blog and a dozen other places (including all over Twitter). Next year I am going!

I haven't been to see the newest Harry Potter movie but I'm going soon. I did see UP and Star Trek - both were excellent! I'm looking forward to The Ugly Truth, too. ;-)

Well, that's it for now. I keep promising myself I will do better with posting but I am full of fail. Still, I persevere. :-p

This time it's TV related - guess who's coming to a TV near you in about a week??



Oh yes, peeps...Nathan Fillion has a new TV show on ABC. It's called Castle and it's about a mystery author who gets pulled into a case with the local police and decides he likes it there. Castle premieres March 9th at 10e/9c.

All I say is Wo0T!!! My captain is coming back to TV with a show that might actually succeed! Yay!!

Like everyone else, I've been watching the Olympics mostly. Yikes, I could never be an athlete like that. Jeez. I admire their stamina and strength of will, though. Me? I'm too lazy.



Speaking of watching the Olympics, who else has been enjoying the previews of the new (and returning shows)? It seems like so long since we've had real TV to watch. Stupid strike. (I know the strike was for a good reason and I'm glad the writers stuck with it, the executives were the ones I directed the stupid toward. Money grubbing weasels.)

I had a good spell of reading while I was sick (when I could stay awake) but now nothing is holding my interest. I hate that. I'm going to hit the special stash of books and see if that pulls me out of the slumpy slide.

...with my mother in tow. And I"m still sick! My voice is mostly back but I'm still soooo tired and cloggy-nosed. A plus - my throat doesn't hurt nearly as much as it did. Another plus - Acheron was waiting on my porch when we got back. Yay! I believe I know what I'll be doing - while watching the Olympics, of course.



Kristie is sick, too, btw. Go and be sympathetic, peeps.

Happy Fourth of July!!

I'm roaming up to the home area this weekend - Friday would have been my grandfather's 100th birthday so we're having a family get-together. :o) I'll be in and out but mostly out.

In other news, any UK peeps (or cyber viewers) - don't forget that Saturday night is the finale of this season of Doctor Who. I am so excited!!

So, you may recall I won a copy of North and South from Kristie J. I finally watched it Sunday - Friday was crazy so I had to postpone my viewing. Blah.

I really enjoyed it! :o) Did I love it to the degree Kristie loves it?? Maybe not - but, really, does anyone love it as much as she does? LOL (((Kristie))) I'm playing!

Other than my occasional struggle with the northern accent (apparently my frequent viewing of the first season of Doctor Who didn't help as much as I would have thought), it was lovely. Very atmospheric and romantic without romanticizing, if you know what I mean.

It was touching and uplifting and educational and sad and heartbreaking and happy and a whole lot more. I would recommend it to anyone who's on the fence and wondering if it is worth checking out. Yup, it is. :o) I found myself wondering about locations - especially the cotton mill. Do they really have one sitting around somewhere that they could go film in - with all the old equipment?? Maybe a museum or something. Surely nothing still in use - yikes! But, if they don't have something around somewhere, can you imagine the difficulty in making one from scratch and getting it authentic? Impressive!

What was the best thing about it??

So, recently I read Nina Bruhns' The Rebel Prince, a Silhouette Romantic Suspense (how much am I hating the lines' name changes, btw?). And, yes, I know I need to update my sidebar...shut up.

The book was okay - not outstanding or anything but not a waste of time. But there were some issues that gave me some problems. The blurb, from eHarlequin:

Serenity Woodsen rushed to Charleston to send a con man packing. But the man who'd charmed her favorite aunt was nothing like she expected. Carch Sunstryker's regal bearing and blatant sex appeal were, well, out of this world. And practical Seri found her heart in danger of believing the impossible….

Prince Carch had come to Earth to save his family's throne. Revealing his identity to a human was strictly forbidden, and falling for one—that would be a disaster. But when Carch's enemies endangered Seri, nothing in the universe could keep him from her side.

So, that sounds fine, right? The tone was a little uneven - adventure? Star-crossed love? Woman dealing with her past? The language was a little old-fashioned. But the main problem for me was this - as I was reading along, I ran across the name of Carch's planet - Galifrax - and was yanked completely out of the story! Why, you ask? Well, I believe I mentioned that I have recently become a fan of Doctor Who and, as any faithful viewer knows, The Doctor is from Gallifrey. Let me repeat that, Gallifrey! So, every time I ran across a reference to Galifrax, my brain started circling around the whole name thing. Was it a tribute/nod/wink to DW? No mention in the acknowledgements. Is Ms. Bruhns a fan of the show? (I checked her website - no mention of Doctor Who.) Perhaps she has a brainstorming partner (who is a fan of the show) who gave her a name for Carch's planet without filling her in on the reference? Who knows? But, help me out peeps - the names are too close to be a coincidence, don't you think??

I started watching Doctor Who because of the Torchwood connection but I quickly came to appreciate it on its own merits. But why, you might be wondering, have I suddenly become a DW fan? Is it the galloping good stories, filled with adventure and fun? Yes! Is it the TARDIS?


Yes, that too (I would like one of my own, please).

Any other reasons?? Well, I can't really think of anything else...



Nope, nothing else is coming to mind...



It's just a really fun show to watch. ;-)

As far as any connection to The Rebel Prince, I guess it will remain a mystery. *sigh*

Anyone else ever had a small detail just drive them batty and pull them out of a story every time it's mentioned?

I know I've been missing in action a lot lately. Getting all the home theater stuff set up and getting data transferred from the iBook to the macBook, getting ready for a friend's wedding and getting all the vacay plans together has taken more time than I thought. Blah. Still, the home theater is up and running (including the HD DVR - W00t!). I finally got the stuff transferred to the macBook, I don't have to do anything else for the wedding for at least another week and only a couple of little things left on the vacay planning front. Yay!

Speaking of HD - wow, high definition is not the friend of aging actors and actresses! Eek! Somebody put a filter on the lens or something! ;-)

Next on the agenda - my taxes. Double blah.

...I'm still trying to get all my electronic whatnot set-up. I'm almost there, I think. The only thing left is the switching of the cable box (going HD I am) and that is scheduled for Tuesday around lunchtime. W00t! In the meantime, I have a few extra channels already turned on to try out, thanks to the cable company's customer service lady. Wheee!

I apologize for the earworm. LOL I've still been packing things away and shifting boxes around. Blah. Still, new Doctor Who and Torchwood on BBC America tonight, so I get a reward for all my efforts. And the Super Bowl is tomorrow, remember. I don't have a lot of interest in the game but I do enjoy the commercials and the halftime show. ;-)
